ILTF has teamed up with Native American Natural Foods, maker of the Tanka Bar, to develop its newest community fund, the Tanka Fund.  The Tanka Fund provides long-term support for buffalo restoration and reservation-based activities that bring prosperity and wellness to Native communities through the use of buffalo products.

ILTF/Tribes Speak Out on Cobell Trust Land Consolidation Program

The Cobell Trust Land Consolidation Program is part of the $3.4 billion Indian Trust Settlement resulting from the Cobell v. Salazar class action lawsuit. As part of the Settlement, $1.9 billion is earmarked for the development of the Trust Land Consolidation Program, an effort to address the growing problem of fractionated ownership through the consolidation of undivided interests in Indian trust land titles.

On September 20, 2011 Indian Land Tenure Foundation facilitated a meeting of tribal leaders and land staff personnel representing 27 tribes from throughout Indian Country to gather input on the proposed program. As a result of the meeting, ILTF has compiled a set of agreed upon recommendations to present to the BIA and is strongly encouraging all Indian nations with allotted lands to make their voices heard by the comment deadline of November 1.

Forest County Potawatomi and Blandin Foundation Support 2011 Spring/Summer Internships

ILTF Summer Intern Jean Lam

Thank you to Forest County Potawatomi and the Blandin Foundation for their generous support this year of ILTF’s 2011 spring/summer internships. Their support allowed interns Jean Lam (Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma), Angela Richards (Oglala and Miniconjou Lakota) and Julius Snell (Navajo and Choctaw/Cherokee) to research and compile data for a comprehensive database of Indian land for reservations throughout the U.S. When complete, the database will provide valuable information on the state of Indian land ownership and control today.
